A high escarpment behind the town of Lithgow has several lookouts over the valley leading towards Bathurst. This lookout is called Hassan's Walls.

Hartley Vale is another beaut spot to explore David. I like the textures on the left hand side contrasting with the green valley.

I can see what you are trying to achieve with the sky. It has a nice dramatic feel with a burst of light coming through the clouds from above.

Perhaps two exposures is going to work better for you. One for the sky and the other for the landscape. Yet I know, TIME can be a pain in the ass.
