You hear all the time about global warming. You see the storms, flood, droughts, climate change. You know the problem. You want to fix it. So read these practical tips. You can make a small difference every day. You may be doing two or three or one already. So do one more, or two... every day of your life. And encourage others.
Change a light
Replacing one regular light bulb with a compact fluorescent light saves 150 pounds of carbon dioxide per year
Drive less
Walk, bike, carpool or take metro transit more often. You’ll save one pound of carbon dioxide for every mile you don’t drive.
Recycle more
You can save 2400 pounds of carbon dioxide per year by recycling just half of your household waste
Check your tires
Keeping your tires inflated properly can improve gas mileage by more than 3%. Every gallon of gasoline saved keeps 20 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere!
Use less hot water
It takes a lot of energy to heat water. Use less hot water by installing low-flow showerhead (350 pounds of carbon dioxide saved per year) and wash your clothes in cold or warm water (500 pounds saved per year)
Avoid products with a lot of packaging
You can save 1200 pounds of carbon dioxide if you cut down your garbage by 10%.
Adjust your thermostat
Moving your thermostat down just 2 degrees in the winter and up 2 degrees in the summer could save about 2000 pounds of carbon dioxide per year.
Plant a tree
A single tree will absorb one ton of carbon dioxide over its lifetime.
Turn off electric devices
Simply turning off (not leaving them in stand by mode) your television, DVD player, stereo, and computer when you’re not using them will save thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide per year.

I always wanted to be somebody, but now I realize I should have been more specific.
I work for the British Council, a cultural organisation attatched to the UK Foriegn Office. They are very big on promoting green solutions and yet this week they had organise a conference in Portugal, fly all of the European directors here, at an estimated 20 tonnes of carbon emmissions.
We need to take a good look at ourselves and what we do every day and see what we can change. There's so much we can do without even the slightest inconvenience to the way we live life.
